Pret A Manger
Potsdamer Platz, Berlín Wednesday, April 30, 2025 Afternoon
Seats by the large glass windows of Pret A Manger’s corner cafe offer a view of:
- the minimalist, airy, large cuboid structure of the entrance to the underground Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz
- a 25-floor building marked at the top with the logo “DB”, its all-glass facade — cylindrical on its wider front and flat on its narrower sides — reflecting the blue of the sky as well as other buildings
- a dark brown highrise as tall as the “DB”, whose triangular footprint and stacked structure are reminiscent of Manhattan’s Flat Iron Building
- another equally tall building whose light brown structure is partly boxy and partly triangular, the latter part covered by a layer of glass offset by about a meter from the front surface
- red, green, and black umbrellas shading —from the spring sunlight — customers occupying the outdoor seats at various cafes on the ground floors of the high rises
- a tall, green, metallic gazebo-like structure in the middle of the square, its top featuring traffic lights and analog clocks on all sides serving the busy traffic at the intersection, while its square, concrete base serves as public seating
- behind the “DB” building, a part of the canopy of the Center Potsdamer Platz, with its distinctive sails
- transient groups of people gathering and dispersing across the open square all afternoon
